Antik çağlardan günümüze, sonsuz ve görkemli yapılar inşa etmek için taş kullanan sanatçılar hiç eksik olmadı, ancak binaları taşa yontan çok az sanatçı var. Sanatçı Matthew Simmonds onlardan biri.

Sanatçı Matthew Simmonds, her bir eseri oluşturmak için tek bir mermer, kireçtaşı veya traverten bloğu kullanıyor. Çeşitli ton ve dokulardaki mermer ve doğal taşları seçiyor. Her bir bina veya yapı, güçlü değişken perspektiflere sahip. Heykeltraş, bize daha geniş bir alan hissi vermek için bu karmaşık yapıları doğal taş bloklara elleriyle, ciddi bir titizlikle ve işçilikle oyuyor.
Simmonds, İran mimarisinde bulunan Muquarnas tavanlar da dahil olmak üzere çalışmalarında birçok kültürü inceliyor ve SINAN heykeliyle 16. yüzyıl Türk mimarı Mimar Sinan'a saygılarını sunuyor.
Soyut eserlerinden birisi olan "Trilogy" ile geleneksel Çin mimarisine atıfta bulununan heykeltıraş tasarımında kırılmamış kenarları gerektiren Feng Shui yasalarını takip eder ve detaylar pencere benzeri açıklıklarla çerçevelenir.
Ayrıca küçük alanları tanımlamak ve farklı detayları göstermek için farklı ışık açıları kullanan artist böylece minyatürlerinde doğa ve insan çabası arasındaki bağlantıyı araştırıyor.
Matthew Simmonds'un taş heykelleri, aceleci dünyamızda zamanı yavaşlatan, huzurun ve sessizliğin güzelliğini hissettiren pek çok şey olduğuna inanmamızı sağlıyor.
